Chocolate Thunder

May 27th, 2009 by ROB ONE

So last week I was invited by the NBA to check out the NBA Nation Tour in Hollywood and I actually got a chance to hang out with legendary NBA superstar Darryl Dawkins aka Chocolate Thunder.  It was definitely an honor for me to be able to chill and crack jokes with the man and I felt very fortunate to have this opportunity.  Of course you know I had to hook him up with some fresh BBJ t-shirts…maybe you’ll see him rockin’ one soon.  Check out the photos below, here he is explaining to me what the NBA Nation Tour was all about, and how he got involved with becoming the first Ambassador for the tour.  If you don’t know about Darryl Dawkins, he was always known for his powerful dunks and shattering backboards throughout his career, then naming them.  The most memorable was the one he did against the KC Kings in 1979, which he named, “The Chocolate Thunder Flying, Robinzine-Crying, Teeth-Shaking, Glass-Breaking, Rump-Roasting, Bun-Toasting, Wham-Bam, Glass-Breaker-I-Am-Jam.  Maybe we’ll do a Chocolate Thunder inspired BBJ t-shirt soon…Hmmm.  For more info on the tour, it started in Hotlanta (with Hollywood being the 2nd stop) and will continue through Frisco, Portland, NY, DC, Chi-Town, and end in Dallas.  Check out the website for details on www.nba.com/nbanation.  Shout out to Ahyiana and Lupe…Thank you!!

Nike X Kobe

May 21st, 2009 by ROB ONE

Last Friday, I was fortunate enough to be invited to an advanced screening of Spike Lee’s new film entitled: Kobe Doin’ Work presented by Nike.   The music was nice and the footage was great, but I was wanting to see more of what Kobe did off the court.  One great thing about the film was being able to see how Kobe’s mind works and you can totally see it through the narrative.  It’s too bad other coaches and players might keen in on Kobe’s mindset and find a way to stop him…Naw, jus playing.  Anyhow, my man Joe from Cerritos All-Stars, hooked me up with the VIP passes and I was able to bring my homey Julius to the show.  The screening was held at the Nike Sportswear store in a theater called the Montalban in Hollywood.  They gave out free drinks and snacks, threw out t-shirts to the crowd and even raffled off some Zoom Kobe IV’s.  The final raffle of the night was a pair of tickets to Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals.  Guess who won ‘em??  My boy Julius.  And guess who’s going to Game 2 on Thursday with Julius…Me!!  Thanks Julius!!  Big shout out to Joe!  Peep some of the photos below.

The Gluttony Tour

May 21st, 2009 by ROB ONE

By the way…Meet Nile.  He’s the really short guy in the middle.  He was also at the advanced screening and he’s got a cool website that you gotta check out called ‘The Gluttony Tour’.  It’s a bi-monthly gathering of tastemakers and friends that like to enjoy and discover the best food around Los Angeles.  His motto is, “We meet, we eat, then we blog about it”.  Nile was the starting center for my high school varsity basketball team.  He’s also the producer for the hit MTV show Wild ‘N Out.  Meet Robbie on the right.  One of the coolest cats you’ll ever meet.  He starred as Quentin Fields on the hit TV show One Tree Hill.  He’s starring in a new movie coming out called Hurricane Season.  It’s about a high school basketball coach who assembles a team of players, a year after Hurricane Katrina hit, and he leads them to the state championships.  Can’t wait for this flick…this will be dope to watch.  Yo Nile, why don’t you plan on a Gluttony Tour at my mom’s crib…you know she makes the best Lumpia around.  Got your name written all over it.
