Chocolate Thunder

So last week I was invited by the NBA to check out the NBA Nation Tour in Hollywood and I actually got a chance to hang out with legendary NBA superstar Darryl Dawkins aka Chocolate Thunder. It was definitely an honor for me to be able to chill and crack jokes with the man and I felt very fortunate to have this opportunity. Of course you know I had to hook him up with some fresh BBJ t-shirts…maybe you’ll see him rockin’ one soon. Check out the photos below, here he is explaining to me what the NBA Nation Tour was all about, and how he got involved with becoming the first Ambassador for the tour. If you don’t know about Darryl Dawkins, he was always known for his powerful dunks and shattering backboards throughout his career, then naming them. The most memorable was the one he did against the KC Kings in 1979, which he named, “The Chocolate Thunder Flying, Robinzine-Crying, Teeth-Shaking, Glass-Breaking, Rump-Roasting, Bun-Toasting, Wham-Bam, Glass-Breaker-I-Am-Jam. Maybe we’ll do a Chocolate Thunder inspired BBJ t-shirt soon…Hmmm. For more info on the tour, it started in Hotlanta (with Hollywood being the 2nd stop) and will continue through Frisco, Portland, NY, DC, Chi-Town, and end in Dallas. So I’m still buggin’ out on the fact that Bobbito Garcia is rockin’ a BBJ Logo Tee on NBA2K9. I still get hit up from the homies on how sick that is to have one of my shirts immortalized on a video game by a legendary cat like Bobbito. It’s pretty amazing. But for reals…It’s been a long time since I’ve played these video games. They get harder and harder every year (I guess I’m getting old). The controls are different, the game play is crazy advanced and I’m too proud to read the damn manual. I get schooled by my 8-year old cousin every single time I play him and he talks trash on top of it. But I have to admit, it’s hella fun though. Pick up the game if you haven’t already (available in PC, Xbox 360, PS2 and PS3). So in honor of the BBJ Logo Tee making its way onto NBA2K9 thanks to Mr. Bobbito Garcia aka Kool Bob Love, I will offer the same t-shirt for all that is interested on our website at a sale price. Cerritos All-Stars - Monday Mixshow

Last week, I was able to roll up to Cerritos All-Stars live, interactive mixshow with The Earl and watch him spin a special set. It was the last time CAS was broadcasting from the Yuco Entertainment Studios, so I felt it was a great opportunity to stop by. Big ups to DJ Redline for holdin it down for CAS (Happy Birthday and Congratulations!! - my boy proposed to his girl on his birthday…she said yes). The Earl played some beats from original artists, and then played the hip hop songs where the samples were being used. It’s amazing to think that most of today’s songs are being sampled by artists that many people don’t know of. One could argue about originality, but I think it’s pretty damn creative if you ask me. I love hearing how producers take snibbets of beats and turn them into somethin’ bangin’! DXC Celebrates 3 Years

Congratulations to our homies Gary and Curtis from Dunkxchange for hittin’ their 3 year mark. It was dope to be out there to celebrate their hard work and efforts. It’s always a positive vibe at these shows because it’s a pretty safe place for kids to try to get their hustle on and at the same time listen to some dope music. I was able to come up on a pair of Jordan IV Black Cats in exchange for some Nike Jordan Dunks. Some cat was tryin’ to slang the Nike Marty McFly Hyperdunks for $1500…I think the dude sold ‘em, too (props to him). Shout out to DJ Butta representin’ all the way from the NYC (see you at cerritosallstars), and DJ Erok from Ek5obition (yo, I still want that Original Gun Clappers t-shirt brotha). Mad props to Anthony & Michael for helpin’ us out. Check out some of the photos at the show.

Yes, yes y’all. Once again Bball Junkies makes it on Bounce Magazines’ online website. Check out the post courtesy of Jeremy Ripley entitled, “Bball Junkies Unite - Hoops Is Life”. It’s the second time we’ve been featured on the website. You can check out the old post entitled, “Bball Junkies Represent”. And for the record, my man Bobbito was the first to rock the Trotter Tee. Don’t Stop The Rock

I thought that I should take the time to talk about and feature the t-shirt design “Don’t Stop The Rock”. If you haven’t noticed, this particular season pays homage to the Old School and to the pioneers that laid down the brickwork for us all. The concept of this tee was directly influenced by the Sugar Hill Gang’s track entitled “Rapper’s Delight”. This single was one of the first tracks to introduce the world to Hip Hop music. This tee “Don’t Stop The Rock” can be interpreted in many ways from the B-boy who thinks of break dancing to the Rocker who thinks of his music. But to us Bball Junkies…Don’t ever stop playin’ ball!
