I just got back from the Frank and Son Collectible Show this afternoon and it wasn’t a typical Saturday for all the regulars that usually show up. The place was jam packed and you would think that you were celebrating at a Laker parade with the sea of purple and gold in attendance. The reason for the madness…Lamar Odom, Trevor Ariza, and Shannon Brown were there signing autographs. Even a ghetto bird circled around the area. Peep some of the photos.
So last week I was invited by the NBA to check out the NBA Nation Tour in Hollywood and I actually got a chance to hang out with legendary NBA superstar Darryl Dawkins aka Chocolate Thunder. It was definitely an honor for me to be able to chill and crack jokes with the man and I felt very fortunate to have this opportunity. Of course you know I had to hook him up with some fresh BBJ t-shirts…maybe you’ll see him rockin’ one soon. Check out the photos below, here he is explaining to me what the NBA Nation Tour was all about, and how he got involved with becoming the first Ambassador for the tour. If you don’t know about Darryl Dawkins, he was always known for his powerful dunks and shattering backboards throughout his career, then naming them. The most memorable was the one he did against the KC Kings in 1979, which he named, “The Chocolate Thunder Flying, Robinzine-Crying, Teeth-Shaking, Glass-Breaking, Rump-Roasting, Bun-Toasting, Wham-Bam, Glass-Breaker-I-Am-Jam. Maybe we’ll do a Chocolate Thunder inspired BBJ t-shirt soon…Hmmm. For more info on the tour, it started in Hotlanta (with Hollywood being the 2nd stop) and will continue through Frisco, Portland, NY, DC, Chi-Town, and end in Dallas. Check out the website for details on www.nba.com/nbanation. Shout out to Ahyiana and Lupe…Thank you!!
Universal Studios Hollywood, the Entertainment Capital of L.A., welcomed the NBA Nation event on Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17. NBA players Eric Gordon, Cuttino Mobley, Kevin Love and Darryl Dawkins were on hand to sign autographs for their many eager fans as well as participate in various hoop activities. Quest Crew was also in attendance with a special dance performance. Photos provided by: Universal Studios.
Last Friday, I was fortunate enough to be invited to an advanced screening of Spike Lee’s new film entitled: Kobe Doin’ Work presented by Nike. The music was nice and the footage was great, but I was wanting to see more of what Kobe did off the court. One great thing about the film was being able to see how Kobe’s mind works and you can totally see it through the narrative. It’s too bad other coaches and players might keen in on Kobe’s mindset and find a way to stop him…Naw, jus playing. Anyhow, my man Joe from Cerritos All-Stars, hooked me up with the VIP passes and I was able to bring my homey Julius to the show. The screening was held at the Nike Sportswear store in a theater called the Montalban in Hollywood. They gave out free drinks and snacks, threw out t-shirts to the crowd and even raffled off some Zoom Kobe IV’s. The final raffle of the night was a pair of tickets to Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. Guess who won ‘em?? My boy Julius. And guess who’s going to Game 2 on Thursday with Julius…Me!! Thanks Julius!! Big shout out to Joe! Peep some of the photos below.

Okay party people, the homies at Footlong Development got another one for you called FLAVORS at the Echoplex in Los Angeles on December 12th. DJ Spinna (Wonderwax) and J.Rocc (World Famous Beat Junkies) will be taking you back to the ol’ school by rockin’ Hip Hop, Reggae and R&B classics from the 90’s. Damn, this is something that’s definitely needed…it’s was when Hip Hop was at it’s finest. The Golden Era. So for pre-sale tickets go visit: www.going.com/flavors08.
So earlier in the month of November, my man Bobbito Garcia was in Tokyo, Japan for an event that he did with Rock Steady Crew President Crazy Legs and DJ Tony Touch. Damn, it would have been nice to be out there. Peep the photos below. While he was out there representin’, he was also spotted rockin’ a fresh BBJ My3Sons Tee. Yo Bob, the shirt does match your sneaks! To read more about Bobbito’s journey to Tokyo check out a couple of the posts he wrote entitled: Crazy, Touch & Love Rock Japan and The Dogyard Japan, definitely some good reads. Domo Arrigato Bobbito.
Last night, BBJ had the opportunity to roll up to Wonder-Full LA3 thanks to Asad at Footlong Development, and let me tell you…that place was bangin’! The night was spent listening to tracks that were either written, produced, sampled from, remixed or sang by Stevie Wonder. Bobbito Garcia and DJ Spinnawere both holdin’ it down (as they always do) and provided a combination of joints that got the crowd moving. During some moments throughout the night, the place turned into a huge karaoke club where everyone in the place was singing their asses off. The club was filled with a positive vibe with a little over a thousand heads in attendance. Upstairs they had live screen printing being done by Hit+Run, where people were able to pick and choose 3 out of 6 designs that were available and have them printed anywhere on the shirt. It’s a great concept! There was also live painting being showcased in front of everyone. Lastly, we were able to link up with Bobbito really quick to show him some of the new Bball Junkies gear for Fall 08/Winter 09 that will be ready to drop this week (stay posted), and he rocked one of the new joints immediately the rest of the night. Next stop for Bobbito and Spinna is The Do-Over. Check out some of the photos from Wonder-Full LA3 (Damn, I wish I had my other camera)! By the way, it’s because of this event last year, Asad was able to give Bobbito the BBJ logo tee (Thanks brotha).
Check out The Do-Over on Sunday, May 19th at Cranes Hollywood Tavern where they’ll have some special mystery guests in attendance. I “WONDER” who they will be? The jam starts at 2pm til 10pm, but you gotta reserve your spot. If you wanna RSVP, log onto www.thedoover.net. Do your weekend all over at the do-over!

This past weekend was the monthly Orange County Record Show in Buena Park, a record lovers paradise. Just as is the case when you find that shop or event like the Dunkxchange for all you sneaker addicts; the record show can be a vinyl enthusiasts chance to fill up the stock in their collection. With this event, you have a chance to meet some record dealers and other vinyl heads that are down for the same cause, VINYL. Serato users need not apply for this show, strictly vinyl. Along with the vendors, you’ll might be lucky to bump into your favorite local Hip Hop producer: Dj Numark, Madlib, Cut Chemist, Evidence, Alchemist, J-Rocc, Dj Babu are just a few of the many that will attend these events. EBAY is always an easy alternative on buying records, but the record show allows for inspection of the vinyl and there is always the $1 bins that are waiting to be picked through, to find that gem that you have been waiting for. For upcoming shows visit www.asavinyl.com. Until next time, keep diggin’…

Congratulations to our homies Gary and Curtis from Dunkxchange for hittin’ their 3 year mark. It was dope to be out there to celebrate their hard work and efforts. It’s always a positive vibe at these shows because it’s a pretty safe place for kids to try to get their hustle on and at the same time listen to some dope music. I was able to come up on a pair of Jordan IV Black Cats in exchange for some Nike Jordan Dunks. Some cat was tryin’ to slang the Nike Marty McFly Hyperdunks for $1500…I think the dude sold ‘em, too (props to him). Shout out to DJ Butta representin’ all the way from the NYC (see you at cerritosallstars), and DJ Erok from Ek5obition (yo, I still want that Original Gun Clappers t-shirt brotha). Mad props to Anthony & Michael for helpin’ us out. Check out some of the photos at the show.
