First of all…Congratulations to Lamar Odom and the World Champion Los Angeles Lakers for a successful year. I’m still celebrating! Anyways, make sure to check out Lamar’s clothing line called Rich Soil and the Limited Edition World Champions t-shirt seen below. If y’all don’t know about it, check out their website www.richsoilclothing.com.
Rich Soil is a clothing line that promotes creative design, spiritual iconic imagery, and the shared idea that growth can come from virtually anywhere. Started by Lamar Odom and designer Jonathan Garcia, Rich Soil seeks to be at the forefront of new ideas. Drawing inspiration from an eclectic mix of experiences, musical taste and personal philosophy, Rich Soil uses the T-shirt as a vehicle to promote more than a brand, but a movement that represents the creative spirit of all people.
Check out this animated film created by Mabona Origami entitled, “Pursuit of Perfection”. It’s a film created for shoe company ASICS, also known as Onitsuka back in the day. For those of you who don’t know, Onitsuka was the first sports shoe company in Japan founded by Kirachiro Onitsuka in 1949, which later formed ASICS in 1977.
Here’s a new segment on BBJ that I like to call: Pick-N-Roll. Don’t laugh, I know it sounds corny, but it makes sense. The post will feature some dope products that are out there right now, that if I’m out shopping I would definitely pick and roll with it. Hence the title of the post: Pick-N-Roll. Anyways, today I’d like to feature some t-shirts that I would roll with, if I’m not wearing BBJ. One designed by Jeff Staple (Staple Design) and the other one from Sam Flores (12 Grain). Just like how Stockton and Malone run the play, these products were well executed. Two dope designers in the game right now that are my personal favorites. Check out the photos below. Watch out, you’ll get hooked on the phrase, too.

So my man Wu and I had the opportunity to check out the highly anticipated solo exhibition of legendary artist Futura on Saturday and we were not disappointed by any means. We were both in amazement from the get go as we walked through the doors and saw the 20-foot Pointman Figure painted on the wall. The entire collection that was presented was something you had to check out up close. The attention to detail involved in each piece got you scratchin’ your head and wondering how the hell did he do that in that short amount of a time. The gallery setting was totally perfect as it provided an atmosphere that had an industrial-type feel to it in the middle of Downtown LA. Overall a great experience and the people from KRUNK were definitely cool. I leave you with some words from the man himself which sums up the whole exhibit…”I consider it my best work. When I started on it, I could feel myself about to explode: it reflects my growth and evolution. I want this work considered on its merits…and in that sense I’m going right back to the beginning of the story” - FUTURA.
FUTURA will be in town this weekend, so make sure to check out his solo exhibit in LA. Check out the press release: Krunk presents, “Strategic Synchronicity” - an incredibly rare four day event featuring the first ever LA-solo show by the internationally acclaimed graffiti artist and true pioneer of the American Urban Art Movement - FUTURA. This once in a lifetime event starts on Thursday, September 18th through Sunday, September 21st (in a secret location in Downtown LA). Then it’s gone. For more info log onto www.madkrunk.com. Peep the trailer. This is one event that can’t be missed.
Check out this lithograph of Kobe Bryant that was designed by Shepard Fairey for Upper Deck. This huge image can be seen on the side of the Henry Fonda Theater through the intersection of Hollywood and Vine in Los Angeles. Upper Deck will be selling two versions of these lithographs on their website and limited to 50 of each design. Get yours while you can. Shepard Fairey, known for the infamous OBEY campaign, also designed Kobe’s Crest found on the bottom right corner of the image. Photo courtesy: KB24.com.
There’s this dope online magazine that you gotta check out called Inquiringmind Magazine which features Nike’s very own Tinker Hatfield this month. If you haven’t seen any of their articles yet, you have to read this one. Tinker Hatfield is the shoe designer that brought you many of the illest Jordan sneakers, most notably the Jordan III, which is one of my favorites. Check out this issue: Tinker Hatfield - The Modern Day Renaissance on Inquiringmind to get to know the man behind the designs.
Just saw this posted on Bobbito’s website Bounce Magazine and wanted to post it here on Bball Junkies.
